Boarding
Boarding has a long tradition at McGlashan and boarders, who make up about one quarter of the total roll, have a special place here. At present there are around 60 in Junior Hall and 60 in Senior Hall. The Director of Boarding, his assistant and housemasters supervise and care for our boarders during the term. Others employed in the boarding house include kitchen and cleaning staff, matron, and maintenance and grounds staff.
There is a close working relationship between the school and the boarding house and the boys have access to school facilities and equipment outside normal school hours. In addition, teachers communicate frequently with the Director of Boarding and other staff about boys’ progress, achievements and problems.
“Day-boy” parents are encouraged to invite boarders to their homes. It improves relationships between town and country students and this can be helpful when boys are new to the school and to Dunedin.
