There are also many universities that offer scholarships for IB Diploma students. Others offer credit or exemptions for specific courses based on grades obtained in IB subjects. The IBO maintains information about university recognition on their website. It is advisable that you read this information carefully and consult the admissions office of any university in which you are particularly interested as this information can change.
Students applying to a particular university may also grant permission for their IB grades to be accessed directly from the IBO’s secure web site.
Otago University has become very familiar with the IB Diploma over the past 7 years as many of our students have attended there. It recognises the real level of achievement that the actual individual subject grades reflect. As a result, an IB student who failed to gain the 24 points necessary for the Diploma can still gain entrance based on the grades they had obtained. In practice, a total IB score even as low as 18-20 is still recognised as being academically equivalent to the entrance requirement via NCEA.
Without exception, students who have completed the diploma report that they are extremely well prepared for university study both in terms of content covered, and in the skills they have developed. |
