 What is the International Baccalaureate?

The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) is a recognized leader in the field of international education, encouraging students to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged world citizens. Founded in 1968, it currently works with 1,888 schools in 124 countries to develop and offer three challenging programmes to more than 486,000 students.

The IB Diploma Programme is a challenging two-year curriculum, primarily aimed at students aged 16 to 19. It leads to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities.

Students learn more than a collection of facts. The Diploma Programme prepares students for university and encourages them to:

  • ask challenging questions
  • learn how to learn
  • develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture
  • develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures.

The programme requires students to study a broad range of subjects and it emphasises the importance of a global perspective. It avoids undue specialisation and allows students to develop the wide range of skills necessary to solve problems in a variety of contexts.
