Competition for NZ Music Month

Wednesday 1st April 2026

Calling all budding artists, designers and photographers!

We want you to design an album cover for your favourite song from Aotearoa for an exhibition in the ELC for NZ Music Month in May.

We’re looking for originality in design and concept.

Entries will be judged for the award of Design Excellence (in the categories Junior School/Rest of School) and we’ll also have a People’s Choice Award where you can vote for your favourite piece of cover art.

The three winners will each receive a framed copy of their artwork, a $20 canteen voucher and an artist feature in the school socials and in the Pilkington Press.

Here are the specs:

  • Your album cover should be square (31cm x 31 cm). You can send it in digitally, or you can deliver an original artwork to school.

  • You can use techniques from photography, art, collage or design, but make sure you have the name of the artist and song title on the cover.

  • Judges will be looking at the relationship between the image and the song title.

  • AI is a useful tool in ideation, but we will be looking for originality - no AI slop!

  • Submissions close 29 April.
