Our Year 12 Outdoor Education class recently embraced one of their key EOTC experiences, taking part in a surfing programme with Esplanade Surf School - St Clair.
Blessed with classic St Clair conditions, students developed their surf skills while demonstrating outstanding resilience, teamwork, and enthusiasm.
This activity contributes toward the NCEA 2.4 Achievement Standard, where students apply practical skills and reflect on their learning in a dynamic outdoor environment. Pleasingly, the group exemplified the school’s expectations for behaviour in public, representing John McGlashan College with pride and maturity. Their progress, both in confidence and capability, has been excellent.
Looking ahead, the class has an exciting term of challenges and growth opportunities, including a high ropes course, climbing, caving, and leading ABL sessions at the start of the Year 7 Camp. Collectively, these experiences contribute toward a possible 9 NCEA credits this term.
