Welcome Back to the Junior Hub!

Thursday 29th January 2026

A huge and cheerful welcome back to all our Year 7–8 boys!

There’s been a real buzz in the air as students return to school, and it’s impossible not to notice the excitement around the brand new playground. It has already been a massive hit, with laughter echoing across the grounds as friendships are formed and strengthened. From energetic lunchtime games to a few surprise appearances by “older” students giving it a go, the playground has quickly become a favourite spot for everyone.

Adding to the excitement is our new Junior Hub, which is now fully up and running. The four new classrooms look amazing and have created a welcoming, modern space where learning and collaboration are already thriving. It’s been wonderful to see our Year 7–8 boys settling in so confidently and making the space their own.

Supporting our students this year is a fantastic Year 7–8 teaching team:

  • Lisa Matheson – Year 7-8 Dean & Year 7 Teacher

  • David Beazley – Year 7 Teacher

  • Rob Milne – Year 8 Teacher

  • Liza Wilson – Year 8 Teacher

The Year 7s also enjoyed a memorable history tour on Thursday. The day began with a visit to Toitū Museum, where students explored exhibits and researched key themes such as education, gold mining, and the life of John McGlashan and his family. Working in groups, the boys navigated their way around the museum, uncovering information and learning how these historical elements connect to our school’s story.

Our final stop was the Southern Cemetery, where we met Dr Columbus and visited the resting places of Thomas Burns, John McGlashan, Isabella McEwen and members of the McGlashan family. It was a fascinating and meaningful experience, offering a special insight into a family that has given our school such a rich and lasting history.

It’s been an exciting start to the year in the Junior Hub, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings!
