Outstanding results at the Secondary Schools Curling Competitions 2025.
We are incredibly proud to congratulate our combined John McGlashan and St Hilda's Collegiate curling team on an exceptional season, taking first place at both the South Island Secondary Schools Curling Cup and the New Zealand Secondary Schools National Curling Cup. Taking home both trophies and bringing home the gold medals.
The team was a combined team of two John McGlashan students, Andrew B and Blake C, and and two St Hilda's students. Both Andrew and Blake are in Year 9, and are playing in their first year of competition!
Andrew was also awarded 3rd place for the 'Draw Shot Challenge'. This is the person who draws the closest to the centre of the curling circle, called the button.
Out of the seven games in the round robin the team won four and lost three, only just qualifying 4th to go into the semi finals to play the 1st ranked team, Otago Boys'. Winning this game to then play in the final against Mt Roskill (Auckland). It was a tough game with the team coming out on top to win the NZSS Curling Cup.
