48 Hour Film Festival
This is a fast-paced, nationwide filmmaking competition that takes place from 31 July to 2 August. The premise is simple but intense: teams have exactly 48 hours to write, shoot, score, and edit a 5-minute short film. We won't know what we are making until 7:00 PM on Friday, 31 July, when the official competition prompt (including our assigned genre and a few mandatory elements) is revealed. From that moment, the clock starts ticking! If you're interested in joining the team contact Pennie Hunt (Arts Coordinator).
Rockquest
Our very own Deaf Raccoon have made the Otago Finals which will be held on Friday 19 June at the Regent Theatre. Student tickets are just $15 and are on sale at the Regent Box Office or online:

OnScreen
Our talented Year 9 band Sore Fingers (consisting of Charlie.H, George.M, William.S, and James.L) , are excited to be making their song Summit into a fully fledged music video with the help of Yr 10 student Noah.K and Harry.W. The OnScreen comp is like Showquest but for film and it will be the first year we are taking part. We look forward to sharing our mahi with you later next term!

JMC Improv Club
Our short form improv and Theatresports club is back up and running for another year. The group is in very good hands this year, under the leadership of of Student Year 13 Captain, Issac.M, with guidance from Whaea Fridd. If you are keen to learn some new skills in a fun and supportive environment, come and join us in the Drama room on Wednesday lunchtimes. Bring your lunch!
We also have three students representing John McGlashan College in the weekly after school sessions of the Ōtepoti Secondary Improv Club - which draws talented rangatahi from all across Dunedin.
Music in the Library
We're hoping to have a regular time slot on Thursdays for students to play music in the library. Today Charlie H. kicked it off with some beautiful acoustic guitar tunes. Anyone else interested in playing, please contact Pennie Hunt (Arts Coordinator), pennie.hunt@mcglashan.school.nz.
Youthfest
Our Drama Department is excited to take part in a brand new student theatre festival this year, Youthfest. One or two senior drama devising pieces will be entered into this festival, which will see the local event held at St Hilda's Collegiate School, and the Regional Otago Final at Mt Aspiring College in Wānaka. We look forward to seeing our senior drama submissions.
