A Big Week at Te Kūwaha Mātauraka

Thursday 27th November 2025

A whirlwind week of adventure has just wrapped up at Te Kūwaha Mātauraka, where our Year 10 boys took on Fiordland’s tracks, lakes, and mountains in one of the most action-packed camps we’ve ever run.

It has been a full-on and unforgettable week here at Te Kūwaha Mātauraka as our Year 10 camps got underway. Four tramping groups headed out from our facility—Routeburn, Kepler, Greenstone–Mavora, and the Hollyford—each experiencing the incredible variety that Fiordland has to offer. From sun and clear skies to wind, rain, and even lightning for the Hollyford crew, the boys certainly got the full backcountry experience.

When they were not tramping, they were kept just as busy. Their days were filled with fishing, rock climbing, disc golf, kayaking, and archery, with evening energy channelled into classics like sardines and capture the flag. The enthusiasm, resilience, and teamwork shown throughout the week have been outstanding.

We are extremely fortunate to have a facility like Te Kūwaha Mātauraka, where outdoor learning and adventure can thrive side by side. A huge thank you goes out to all teachers and parents who generously gave up their time to support these trips—your contribution makes experiences like this possible.

This is a fantastic group of boys, and we look forward to welcoming them all back to the lodge next week, ready to share their stories from an epic week in the outdoors.
