What a term it has been! The Year 7–8 Department can hardly believe we are already in Week 8.
It has been an incredibly busy and productive term, with all boys showing excellent focus and commitment across all learning areas.
Our Year 7 students have been exploring Māori myths and legends, using both poetry and creative narrative writing to craft their own engaging stories. Alongside this, they have undertaken an indepth inquiry into New Zealand's history through our unit Te Tiriti o Waitangi, A Journey of Partnership. Using The House That Jack Built as a key text, students have explored the historical and cultural background of the Treaty of Waitangi, examining the perspectives of both Māori and the Crown. They have investigated the impacts of colonisation, early European settlement stories and Māori narratives, developing a deeper understanding of our nation's past.
Our Year 8 students have been immersed in a novel study of War Horse, linking their learning to ANZAC themes and the experiences of those affected by war. They have also been developing their narrative writing skills, producing thoughtful and creative stories that reflect the techniques studied throughout the term.
Over the coming weeks, students will be preparing for our annual Prepared Readings competition. We are looking forward to celebrating their efforts and sharing our finalists with the wider school community before the end of the term.
Winter Sport Success
Winter sport is now well underway, and it has been fantastic to see so many of our Year 7–8 boys proudly representing the school in both school and club competitions. Their commitment, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship continue to be a credit to our community.
Recently, a number of our students competed in the annual Taieri Rugby 7s Tournament. The tournament provided plenty of exciting action, with many closely contested matches and outstanding displays of skill, teamwork and determination.
We would like to congratulate our students on their excellent performances, particularly the members of the Taieri Blue Year 7 team, who were crowned tournament champions. Congratulations to Lukas K, Carter Y, Caden S, and Archie S on their first-place finish. A special mention also goes to Harry B, whose Kaikorai team finished in second place in the Year 7 competition.
In the Year 8 competition, congratulations to Harry B and his Kaikorai team for claiming first place and taking out the title.
Well done to all of our boys who competed. We are proud of the way you represented your clubs, your teammates, and yourselves throughout the tournament. Keep up the outstanding work on and off the rugby field.
