South Island Secondary School Athletic Champs

Saturday 4th May 2024

Some excellent results for John McGlashan over the weekend in many events at the South Island Secondary School Athletic Champs in Timaru To reach the South Island Champs, you first need to gain a top 3 ranking amongst all schools in the Otago Champs. Only the top kids who attain the very top performances represent each province.

There were several 'top 8' placings. Alex Walker won U15 Boys 100m, 200m, Shot put and 2nd Discus. Ezra Harris gained an amazing 3rd place in the U14 Javelin at his 2nd competition ever in this event. Daniel O’Brien was 4th in the 2000m open Steeplechase Eddie Weir placed 4th in both the u14 High Jump and Long Jump. Angus Hollows was 5th in the U14 Discus, 7th in the Javelin and 5th Pole Vault (missing the U14 boys Otago record in his final attempt) Archie Gordon was 5th in the U14 shot put and 6th in the Discus Edmund Ferro was 8th in the U16 boys 200m preliminary race. The JMC u14 4x100m relay team (Archie, Ezra, Eddie and Angus) gained a speedy 4th in the final. Special mention goes to Liam Wilson, who gave Pole Vault a go. He bravely went up against some seasoned professionals. Like his fellow u14 JMC teammate Angus, this was one of his first-ever attempts at this sport. Photos Paul Ferro and Gretchen Robertson
