Nate joined John McGlashan in Term 2, 2025, moving from Thailand to Dunedin.
Since his arrival he has immersed himself in the opportunities offered by the College. He joined the curling team, a sport he had neither seen nor played before. His team ended the season winning their division.
In Term 3 last year Nate wanted to try another new sport and signed up for rowing. This is a sport that requires significant physical and mental commitment. The training schedule is rigorous and involves early morning sessions on the Dunedin Harbour.
Nate returned early from his Christmas break in early January so that he could attend a week long training camp at Lake Waihola and then a regatta in Twizel.
Throughout this term Nate and his teammates have continued their 5.00am training schedule to prepare for further competitions. This year Nate has competed in the South Island Rowing Championships in the 4s and the 8s, and represented our school in the prestigious Maadi Cup which is the premier New Zealand Secondary Schools rowing regatta.
Nate has said that the best part about the experience has been the self discipline it has installed in him and the strong bonds with his teammates the hard training and competition has forged.
