Who do we listen to and another invitation for those who pray.

This term in Chapel we have been looking at who we listen to. We began the term with the story of King Ahab. The Israelite King who ignored Micaiah the Prophets advice to his peril. It turned out his paid "prophets" were trying only to keep their jobs and pacify him rather than speak the truth to him. His refusal to hear anything that was not positive is seen in the quote below.

The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, “There is still one prophet through whom we can inquire of the Lord, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” 1 Kings 22:8

We have considered together that while we no longer have scores of loyal prophets keen to find our favour - instead we have many algorithms and internet personalities keen to gain our loyalty and our money or information. In keeping with our motto - Lex Domini Lux Mundi - we have continued exploring how the Law of the Lord can help us shed light on what we should be listening to. How to find truth that we need, rather than lies that seem nice to hear. Subsequent weeks have seen us exploring stories where King's run into problems as they ignore their Elder's wisdom and ideas around how to gently speak truth to our friends. Can I encourage you please to continue these conversations with your boys - it is powerful for them to hear stories of times where others have ignored the right advice and learned or managed to be given hard truth and benefitted!

God Bless,

Mike Brown

An invitation to those who pray: we have a group of parents who try to meet periodically to pray for our boys and wider school community. We are meeting again this coming Monday 18th May, 7pm downstairs in the Edgar Learning Centre (ELC) - Friedlander Room in the Library. We would love anyone who wishes to join us.
