Check out our new arts instagram, website, covid-adapted music group rehearsals, plays in progress, and photography student feature!
Kia ora koutou katoa,
It has been a gentle start for the arts this year with Omicron and its various impacts. However, adaptions have been made to facilitate circumstances- keeping our staff and students safe, and the arts alive and happening!
With that in mind, we have revamped the JMC arts instagram which now has frequent content for you to enjoy and partake in. Come and see student work, our arts departments in motion, and extra-curricular projects throughout the year.

We also have a new arts website that we have launched that is a one-stop shop for all things arts in the school. You will be able to see what we have on offer, what's happening, and what we are celebrating. Additionally, this is a resource for students to keep informed on important arts-related info (events, competitions etc.), as well as hearing from student voices, such as our arts prefect- Theo Hannagan. The website is currently under construction, but give it a wee look and save/bookmark it for the future! (QR code at the bottom of article to alternatively scan)

Moving on to what's happening in the school- Choir and Jazz Band rehearsals have started for 2022! There have been many delays for these groups getting started this year with red alert regulations requiring clever compromise- outdoor rehearsals.
Choir rehearsals are every Thursday lunchtime- join! Singing in a group is perhaps one of life’s lesser known joys if you’ve never been a part of a choir community, it’s a great way to make new friends. Our choir director, Ms. Mah, is super lovely and has a wealth of knowledge, so take advantage of the singing and musical training she provides for this group. Pop on by to the music department to sign up or send an email directly to- amelia.mah@mcglashan.school.nz
Jazz Band rehearsals are Friday lunchtime- join, or learn a brass instrument with Mr. Kane so you can! If you love jazz music or Thundercat, Jazz Band is a great way to be in proximity to that sound/grove that you love, as well as garner knowledge for your own future musical creations... Email Mr. McNulty directly to join- steven.mcnulty@mcglashan.school.nz
In the Drama department, the Yr 11 & 12's are working on the play 'The Curious Case of the Dog in the Nighttime' by Simon Stephens and the Yr 13s 'Frankenstein' by Nick Dear.
From the Visual Arts department- this newsletter's photography feature selected by Mr. Jones is of Yr 12 Fergus's beautiful work
Stay tuned for the next JMC arts newsletter with many more updates to come! Stay safe and take care.
