Assembly this week was about recognising a few of our boys who’ve done something special in sport - they’ve earned a Winter Sports Blue. That’s the top award we give for sporting achievement at McGlashan.

A Blues is not just about showing up or being part of a good team. It is earned through hard work, high performance, and doing things the right way – with consistency, effort, and a positive attitude. One aspect that makes McGlashan unique is the high level of involvement from our students.

Twice as many boys participate in sports compared to the national average, and most of you compete in three different sports.

This is significant. It demonstrates how much sports matter here – not only for achieving results but also for enhancing school life. Sports offer much more than simply filling up a calendar.

They teach valuable life lessons that truly stick:

- How to be part of something bigger than yourself.

- How to stay calm under pressure.

- How to take a loss and come back stronger.

- How to take pride in the small victories that often go unnoticed.

The boys we are recognising today have exemplified these qualities: effort and consistency. They have set a high standard for what it means to represent McGlashan. A quick thank you to the coaches, staff, and parents who keep our sports programs running strong through early mornings, long drives, and cold sidelines – we couldn’t do it without you. To those receiving Blues today – congratulations! You have made yourselves and your school proud. Keep setting the bar high for the rest of us. Here are the recipients of the Blues:
