Last night, John McGlashan College staff members Nigel Hunter and Bonnie Gradwell attended the opening of the Otago Polytechnic Architectural Exhibition, held in their building on Anzac Avenue.
The ground floor of the exhibition was a vibrant display of work from the third-year students. The space was filled with their Posters, booklets, and detailed models, all representing countless hours of incredibly hard work.
All visitors were highly impressed, noting that the students' creativity and ability to problem-solve solutions for their complex designs were nothing short of inspiring.
Head of the School of Architecture at Otago Polytechnic, Associate Professor Tobias Danielmeier, expressed how impressed he is with the students who were educated at John McGlashan College.
“The students consistently embody the school’s values, demonstrating excellence, a strong work ethic, and perseverance. To excel in the degree, they must also show curiosity, technical proficiency, and innovation. For example, Master of Architecture (Professional) student Hudson Ross was recently invited to Melbourne to present his hypothetical scheme for Te Kūwaha Mātauraka – the proposed John McGlashan College second campus at Te Anau Downs.”
A highlight of the evening was catching up with several former students! We spoke with 3rd Year Student Sam Gradwell, who was proudly presenting his design major project: Kei te Puāwai te Kākano, an inspired design for an early childhood centre. We also caught up with Hudson Ross, Simon Basel, and Andre Radel, who are all now in their first year of their Master's degree.
We are incredibly proud to see such strong John McGlashan College representation at the exhibition, with former students working diligently their way through their degrees in architecture. Their success is a wonderful testament to their dedication and talent!
