Exploring Science Triumphs: Highlights from the 2024 Otago Science Fair

17 students attended the Otago Science Fair and came away with a massive list of acknowledgements.


The 2024 Otago Science Fair was a massive success for the students selected to take part! For the first time ever all boys who were selected and participated in the fair were awarded prizes. In total, an impressive 43 prizes were given out to the 17 students involved. One outstanding winner was Blake Chalmers, who received a Premier prize for his project on allelopathy. Allelopathy is the phenomenon where certain plants release biochemicals that can inhibit neighbouring plants. Blake's investigation into this fascinating concept was both insightful and thought-provoking. His success showcases the importance of curiosity and dedication in scientific exploration. Congratulations to all participants for their hard work and achievements at the Fair! The boys were commended for their articulate interview skills, knowledge of their research areas and maturity and behaviour at the fair.
