A thrilling 29–26 comeback win over Otago Boys’.

John McGlashan came away with a thrilling 29–26 comeback win over Otago Boys’ in a fiercely contested match that showcased grit, belief, and a never-say-die attitude.

Playing with the wind in the first half, McGlashan struck early with a well-constructed try finished by Liam Ross after some strong phase play and sharp work down the edge. However, unforced errors and handling issues allowed Otago Boys’ to take control. They capitalised on McGlashan’s mistakes to build a 12–5 halftime lead, and came out of the sheds firing, scoring two more tries to extend the margin to 26–5 early in the second half.

From that point on, it was all John McGlashan.

Through patient, structured play and improved ball retention, McGlashan mounted a stunning comeback. Four unanswered tries followed, driven by a smart mix of direct forward play and width to the edges. One standout moment included a try scored by Serge after an incredible 17-phase buildup—an example of the team’s discipline and determination.

The bench made a massive impact. Hunter Sutherland, Noah, and Max Stevens lifted the tempo and physicality.

The closing stages tested McGlashan’s resolve. After taking the lead, they were forced to defend 13 phases straight without conceding a single penalty or infringement—a heroic defensive stand that sealed the win.

Special mention goes to Zac Cunningham, who had an outstanding performance in his cap game. From the back, he delivered several strong runs and created attacking opportunities with his vision and footwork.

A memorable win, built on heart, resilience, and belief.
