The Year 13 festival rugby match between the Boarders and the Day Boys delivered a thrilling clash this week, with the Boarders emerging victorious 28-13 thanks to a stellar performance.
The star of the show was undoubtedly Sam Milne, who was the hat-trick hero of the day. Milne’s decisive finishing separated the two sides in a closely contested match. Adding to the buzz on the field, the Boarders' Ritchie Cavanagh earned a new nickname for his uncanny resemblance to league star Reece Walsh.
The Day Boys worked hard all game against a more experienced Boarders team. A beautiful try was awarded to Brodie Millar. This was the result of a brilliantly executed play, starting with a finally judged chip kick by Mac that perfectly set up Millar to cross the line.
The Day Boys had their moments of brilliance, too, demonstrating flair and athleticism:
• Riley delivered a powerful bump-off on Jack Lucas to create space.
• Gus followed up with a crucial break-through.
• The final team effort saw Ed provide the assist for Matt J. to score a well-worked try.
The game was officiated to a high standard, earning praise from both sides. Serge delivered a masterclass in refereeing, greatly assisted by the efficient touch judges.
Post-match, the traditional feed was the perfect end to the day. The cooking crew earned high praise for the superb sausage sizzle, expertly cooked by Jerry, Noah, and Patrick McKenzie.
While the Boarders took the win, a notable number of Day Boys (and a couple more who play, eh!) showed great spirit and skill in a fantastic showcase of Year 13 rugby.
