It was great to see the lads from Sogg starting out the year strong with a performance at the Waitati Music Festival!
They'd been invited to perform after turning heads at the Amped Music Project last year - and with their raw, high-intensity punk performance you can see why.
Frontman Ollie even proudly proclaims on stage that they're 'the most annoying fifteen year olds you've ever met' - but it must be a good kind of annoying, because they're sharing the stage with local legends like IVY, Ha the Unclear, Left or Right and even the Mentalist Collective (featuring our own Mr. Rob Milne).
About 1000 people attended the festival, which ran from 11am-11pm at Bland Park on Saturday 25th January.
At this stage, Sogg are no strangers to live performance after a solid run of all ages gigs at venues like Yours and The Women's Pioneer Hall all throughout the second half of last year. They're comfortable with punk theatrics and it was great to see a healthy dose of humour in play as they dominated the stage, even spilling into the stairs as they performed.
There's a lot of fresh experimentation in their music too, with improvised noise-scapes coming straight out of left field, pedals and instruments being unplugged and replugged with mad scientist-like ferocity - all sandwiched between some seriously impressive rhythm work!

A huge congratulations to the boys for playing their first local music festival. We're looking forward to seeing what they get up to next!
