Manaakitanga | Serving and uplifting others, within our school and the wider community.
The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
So, what does create a better and more peaceful world mean? Given the current global events; we've been exploring what should our young people be taught and experience to make the world a better and more peaceful place?
Our school values curriculum is an excellent place to start. Secondly developing inquisitive, caring and knowledgeable leaders of the next generation. Those who know and consider the ethics of their choices and actions.
While out at the wetlands, we learned about twelve species of flora and fauna that exist in the environment - those that are useful to the eco-system, but also those (Willows) that invade and prevent growth of indigenous species.
It was a beautiful mix of learning eco-systems from a Natural Science point of view, and that of an indigenous knowledge point of view
There are many good answers to the question "What does a better and more peaceful world mean?" but I feel a knowledge-rich, globally minded, values based education - seeking local solutions to global issues like ours and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is more important than ever.
