Summer Sports Blues Assembly 2026

Friday 3rd July 2026

Assembly this week was about recognising a few of our boys who’ve done something special in sport - they’ve earned a Summer Sports Blue. That’s the top award we give for sporting achievement at McGlashan.

What you see is a small badge that will be sewn onto a blazer.

What you won’t see is everything behind it.

You won’t see the early mornings, extra training sessions, injuries, disappointments, long road trips, hours of practice when nobody was watching, or the sacrifices made by these boys and their families over many years.

It Isn't simply about recognising who scored the most points, who was the fastest, or who collected the most medals.

It is about recognising a standard.

A standard of commitment, resilience and discipline.

A standard of representing your teammates, your school and yourselves with pride.

Every athlete receiving a Sports Blue has faced setbacks. They’ve lost games, missed selections, battled injuries, or had moments when giving up would have been the easier option.

The difference is they kept turning up.

That’s why a Sports Blue means so much.

The qualities that earn a Sports Blue are the same qualities that help build successful adults. Sport teaches lessons that last long after the final whistle - teamwork, leadership, humility, perseverance and the confidence that comes from earning success through hard work.

Finally, I’d like to acknowledge the people standing quietly in the background - parents, coaches, managers, teachers and supporters. Every Sports Blue awarded has many fingerprints on it.

To our recipients, congratulations. You have earned one of the highest sporting honours our school can award, and you have set a standard for every younger McGlashan boy to aspire to.

Well done.
