Leo Yan, a Year 9 ESOL student, went for a walk on a beautiful morning last term with his ESOL teacher. Mrs Navarro gave him a list of nouns and adjectives and asked him to write - and this is what he came up with.


On an autumn day, the orange tinge of the sun shines through the leaves and makes people still and warm.


Children are playing in the field and the elongated shadows of them are long because of the low sun. They turn the children into giant men.


The cicadas’ sounds are around and, when I look up, the blue sky is beautiful and without a single cloud. It is like a large blue paper that covered the ground.
