Arts Round Up - Andrew Grounds

Thursday 7th May 2026

Arts and Culture Prefect Andrew Grounds gave an update at this week's assembly:

Morning boys,

I’m just going to talk about a few things coming up in the arts over the next few weeks.

Firstly, next Friday on the 15th of May, after weeks of hard work, 20 of our students will be performing in this year’s Showquest at the Regent Theatre, supported by an incredible backstage student crew of 8 and 4 very dedicated staff members.

Showquest is a massive nationwide platform for youth voices. Where our team has designed an original production that blends:

  • Art & Music

  • Dance & Drama

  • Culture & Technology

This is our chance for the boys to compete against other local schools and show the community what we’ve come up with. I highly encourage you all to come along and support your friends for an unforgettable night on the big stage!

Tickets available online from the Regent Theatre website, or their ticket office in the Octagon.

We also have 5 bands from our school participating in the Rockquest Otago heats next Saturday 16th of May at Taieri college with the finals midway through June. This is a great chance for the boys involved to showcase their musical abilities in a competitive environment.

I also encourage you boys to show your support for the musicians in our school.

If you have any questions feel free to go see our Arts Coordinator Ms Hunt in the link office.

Finally, if you are interested in acting, writing, or directing then the Ōtepoti Secondary Improv Club might be a good place for you to develop these skills. Once a week alongside other secondary school students from around Dunedin. You’ll learn improv skills that can help you build in self confidence, level up for our secondary improv competition, and meet other like-minded individuals.

This is every Thursday Terms 2 and 3 - beginning tomorrow, downtown in the New Athenaeum theatre. Sign up today using the link on our school notices.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask Miss Fridd located downstairs in the ELC.

Cheers

Andrew Grounds

Arts and Culture Prefect
