E rere ana te mihi ki ngā pou o ngā marae, ngā kura, ngā ringa raupā, ngā whatukura, ngā māreikura o te motu.
Ngā mihi mahana o te wā ki a koutou katoa.

 

We warmly invite you, your whānau, hapū and communities to join us at Araiteuru Marae for our very first Hautapu Ceremony to acknowledge the rising of Matariki and the Māori New Year.

 

This sacred and uplifting event will be a time for us to gather in unity (kotahitanga), honour our ancestors, celebrate the present, and plant the seeds of our future hopes together.

 

The ceremony will include karanga, karakia, waiata, whaikōrero, shared kai and reflection on the nine stars of Matariki. Whether you are deeply steeped in the traditions or just beginning your journey with te ao Māori, this is a space where all are welcome.

 

Inclusiveness is at the heart of this kaupapa. We encourage everyone – kaumātua, rangatahi, whānau Māori and tauiwi alike – to be part of this special moment, to learn, remember, and grow together.

 

Date: Friday 20 June
Time: Gather from 4:30am, Ceremony begins at 5:00am
Location: Araiteuru Marae, 24 Shetland Street, Wakari, Dunedin

This is a whānau-friendly, uplifting kaupapa that aims to strengthen our collective mauri and wairua for the year ahead.
