The Winter Sports Blues Awards recognise the outstanding sporting achievements of our students at McGlashan. Given the wide range of sports and the various levels of local, South Island, and National participation, our selection criteria are designed to be flexible. This year, the Blues committee, which includes five staff and three student representatives, has refined the requirements to ensure the awards are both meaningful and equitable across all sports disciplines.


Below is a list of students who have been recognised for their exceptional contributions and achievements in their respective sports:

Badminton

David Song (Endorsed): 5 years in 1sts, 3rd at Nationals, coached and helped run the entire JMC badminton programme.

Basketball

Alex Piebenga (Endorsed): 3 years in 1sts, 50 caps, team MVP this year.

Jayden Toro: 2 years in 1sts, Otago U15-U18, coached.

Angus Burns: 2 seasons in 1sts, 25 caps, coached younger teams, played representative basketball.

Cycling

Dan Greive: 3rd in U16 South Island Road Race, 4th in U16 SISS Time Trial, multiple regional medals, and top 8 finishes nationally.

Josh Greive: 3rd in South Island and Otago/Southland Time Trial, 5th in U17 Cross Country Nationals, national title in U20 Criterium.

Football

Emeilo: 1sts Captain, NZ U19 team, U19 SISS, coached at school.

George Holland: 3 years in 1sts, Otago U17 representative.

James Cameron: 2 years in 1sts, played for Otago.

Will Laws: 2 years in 1sts, Otago representative.

Golf

Connor Howes (Endorsed): Qualified for Nationals, Otago U19 team, many local wins, National Eagles U17 champion.

Harvey O’Neil (Endorsed): 4 years in 1sts, near-zero handicap, Otago representative.

Hockey

Angus Loe (Endorsed): 3 years in 1sts, Otago U18, coached.

Cody Gradwell: 2 years in 1sts, team captain, numerous representative teams, coached.

Dan O’Brien: 2 years in 1sts, 50 caps, Otago U18.

Will Hancox: 3 years in 1sts, 50 caps, Otago U18.

Jock Duncan: 1sts Captain, MVP, 50 caps.

Lachlan Macauly: 2 years as goalie in 1sts.

Sam Hancox: 2 years in the 1sts, Otago U18, 50 Caps

Max Braithwaite: 2 Yrs 1sts, 3yrs playing Rankin, Otago U18 50 Caps

• Adam McNab: 2 yrs 1sts, 50 caps, Otago U18

Ice Hockey

Ben Koh: 4 years as a National Representative, multiple team achievements.

George Bary: NZ representative for 4 years, best defence player, various awards.

Will Bary (Endorsed): U18 NZ team, U20 national team, NZIHL Rookie of the Year.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

Daniel Joint: 3 years with Team Hammerhead, undefeated in MMA and kickboxing, 2 first-round knockouts.

Netball

Tate Cameron: Otago U18 MVP, 4th at Nationals, Men’s Club Rookie of the Year.

Rugby

Alex Piebenga: 2 years in 1sts, Otago U17, U18 Highlanders Schools.

Archie Goodall: 2 years in 1sts, Metro U17, U18, Highlanders Schools.

Ethan McSkimming: 2 years in 1sts, South Island U16, Highlanders Schools.

Harrison Stout: 2 years in 1sts, Otago U18, Highlanders Camp.

Jonty Riley: 2 years in 1sts, Metro U16, U17, Highlanders Camp.

Jaxon Thomson: 2 yrs 1sts, Otago U18, Highlanders

• Joesph Devereux-Kilpatrick. 2yrs 1sts, 20 games, Otago U16, U17

• Liam Barron Endorsed: 3yrs 1sts, Metro U16, 17, 18, Highlanders Schools

Service/Coaching

Angus Loe: Service to hockey and rowing.

Swimming

Ewan Beadell: NZ Secondary Schools medallist in 400m, 800m, and 1500m events, many other regional achievements.

Taekwondo

Ryan Zhou: Black Belt.

Trapshooting

Lachlan McKenzie: 2 years in A Squad, competed in all local comps, won medals, represented Otago.

Fergus Dillon: 2 years in A Squad, shot 86 in a row in competition, competed in shoot-offs at champs
