The Link has been a buzz of activity over Term 4, with the boys working hard on their new writing task 'Kraznir'

Kraznir is a Fantasy Realm where they complete a range of activities and write stories about the adventures of their crew. I have been amazed at their creativity and their ability to produce such powerful and imaginative fantasy writing.

Here are some writing examples from our Fantasy Writing.

Day 3 - The River Enin  - written by Theo D

They woke up by the river the next day and they found a small boat and the river was fast flowing and deep. The boat looked like it could only hold a few people. There were a few rules for this boat and it meant that one person had to paddle at all times while another had to steer the boat.  They had to make sure that they got across the river safely.  As they climbed on the boat they realised that the chest weighed as much as one person, even the food bags weighed as heavy as one of them.  Thor yelled “Lets get on with it”, but Gus was standing there moaning again   “I don't want to get wet”.   Thor and Isadoor had had enough of whiney Gus and replied  “You won't if you do it properly”.

Thor and Isadoor climbed in the boat, one was driving and one was steering. Gus was loading the chest onto the boat, the boat was rocking backwards and forwards and nearly tipping over, they all prayed that it would not flip over and then drift away.  The river was so dangerous and cold that no one would survive.  Gus pushed the boat off the shore, the river was wild, Thor and Isadoor were yelling at each other for control and trying to stay afloat, the other side of the river was coming close they knew safety was in reach. They were hoping that nothing was gonna happen to the chest.  They were nervous but after what felt like an eternity they had made it to the other side of the river safely, with the chest. They had to go back to get Gus, It was just as bad getting back but at least they didn't have their chest to worry about. They made it back safely “Let's hope we can do that again” Blubber said as Gus nervously hopped onto the boat. “Hope it helps me,” he said. As they were halfway across the river a piece of water splashed and got on his face “it's freezing” he groaned. Thor was telling him to stop moaning as he was paddling, stabbing with the cold and constantly padding against the strong flowing current like big waves in the deep dark ocean. All that was left to get across was Blubber and the food bag. As they made it back to the halfway mark their arms were on fire as he was constantly padding against the strong flowing currents as Isadoor was still steering.

With only one more pick up of the food they made their way back over the river, they were close to reaching the goal, however they didn’t see the big log of wood floating down the river.  It crashed into the side of the boat, Thor and Isadoor went flying over the side and landed in the freezing cold water, the log went on top of Thor and pushed him under Isadoor plunged under the the icy water and grabbed him by the scruff of his neck, she yanked him up and pulled him to the side of the boat as he spluttered catching his breath.  “Start kicking” yelled Isadoor we need to make it to land.  They used their strength and started kicking towards the rest of the group. The water felt like hundreds of needles stabbing into their legs. They could see the rest of the group yelling to them to kick faster.  Gus was bobbing up and down in the water like an apple and screaming “I’m drowning help me”  Thor told him to be quiet and stop being so dramatic, Thor saw a large log coming towards them he grabbed it and pushed it towards Gus, he grabbed it with all his might and held on.  Thor and Isadoor guide Gus safely to shore.  They all sighed and dropped down in pain as their legs were purple and stinging from the cold.  Gus was kissing the ground and thanking the world for being alive.  Everyone around him just shook their heads in disgust.  The journey had been completed, everyone was safe, they lived to tell the tale of another day.  What would Day four bring!

Chapter 5 - The Haag - written by Edward P

As they awoke to sunlight seeping through the gaps in the trees and the rustling of the leaf litter. There was a sharp rustle. A pair of cheeky eyes poked between the bushes. Wolf's snout twitched. His eyes shot open. He quickly sniffed the ground and began to sniff his way towards the eyes. Hazelnut opened her eyes next and trotted over to the wolf and together they moved towards the eyes. Suddenly the bush twitched and the eyes were gone. Left behind was a symbol scratched onto a leaf. Hazelnut and wolf quickly awoke everyone and they gathered around to talk about the eyes and the strange symbol. Oak suggested some kind of forest tribe or perhaps the symbol of a band that were currently traveling the forest. Touchfire quickly warded away all their suggestions and stated “This is the mark of an old friend…” Calypso questioned him multiple times after she had regained much of her strength due to Touchfires incredible Alchemy skills. They set out soon after, trotting along gently through the beautiful scenery. Eventually they reached a sign carved deep, Really Maple. It said, “You are now entering the deep part of the forest of Haarg, enter at your own risk.”

Chapter 2 - Attack of the Spiders - written by Liam M

Calypso dodged a deadly blow and sunk his sharp blade into the vicious spider's fangs. Her sword danced in the air as she delivered the finishing blow. Little John charged into a spider and since he couldn’t get bit, he showed no mercy and started beating the life out of the ferocious spider. His dagger was like a lion, never stopping until he finished the job. Then there was only 1 spider left. This spider didn’t only look deadly, Windflight noticed that it looked a lot bigger, stronger, and faster. The spider charged at Touchfire, poison dripping out of his fangs as he was about to deliver a finishing blow. Little John lunged across the spider blocking the blow and defending Touchfire himself. Now the spider was pouring with rage.

He was dodging their attacks like a panther, spitting poison and hissing his fangs.Calypso struck at the spider dodging his blow, slashing her sword as she sinks it into the spider's body. The spider crawled up to Windflight and was ready to bite, but Windflight dodged all the attacks. He punched the spider like a clap of thunder. The sound of the punch was like a gun shot, as he popped the spider's eye out. Now the spider was covered in blood, his face was filled with shock and disbelief. Ambas walked up to the spider and was about to deliver the final killing blow, but then something terrible happened. The spider sucked a part of Ambas’ soul out of him. In panic, Ambas knocked out the spider with his fist for good. Ambas looked his hands and whispered

‘‘My powers are…gone.’’ They were worn out and fatigued. So they decided to see what happened in the morning. But Ambas couldn’t sleep.

Chapter 2 - The Wargs - written by Andrew S

The morning was freezing. Few plants could be seen. The path is only wide enough to fit 2 people walking side by side. The ground was frozen solid, it makes it almost impossible to walk without falling. The mountainside was red, dyed from the blood of men.

Ambas the troll asks “How are we going to get down this steep path?”

“We will plan step by step.”Answers Touchfire  the wizard.

CRACKLE! Suddenly they heard something. Then they saw them in the distance, bloodthirsty wargs, 8 of them! They all knew one thing, it was that wargs were terrified of fire, so Touchfire decided to guard the chest full of battleplans. Little John the dwarf groaned “Why can’t the wargs come later when we are all fully awake?”

Little John was agitated that he couldn’t have more time to rest. He had gotten so agitated that he had an adrenaline rush and picked up his axe then swung it at the first thing he saw, which was Whippertongue the triclops head. Fwoosh! The axe hit Whippertongue’s helmet, luckily it was strong enough to block the hit, but the impact caused Whippertongue to sink into unconsciousness. When the wargs actually came Little John had lost all adrenaline and had turned back into his old coward-like self and he tinkled like a baby at the sight of wargs.

Touchfire then threw a fireball at the wargs, they dashed out of the way. Then Ambas tried throwing a stone at a wargs eye, but hit its foot. That just made the wargs extremely agitated. Touchfire threw another fireball but a spark hit Little John. It made him as orange as the Sun then he ran in pain towards the wargs. Even though they were hungry they still hated fire and ran back towards the curve. Calypso ran towards the wargs with bloodthirsty eyes red as ruby she was furious and nothing would stop her from striking one down. She duelled against a warg, rolled under one and went on its back and struck it down with one strike of her sword. The warg screeched as if it were in hell. The other wargs could only watch in horror as their leader disintegrated in front of their eyes.

MineCraft

Another extension to our writing has been the inclusion of our Minecraft World - which is called Karznir world.  Mr Beazley has effectively designed a platform for the boys to create the layout and realms of Kraznir, the design is spectacular and so very reflective of what the boys have been writing about.  When you read their stores you can see their settings and themes coming through in visual form.
