Sports Roundup - Weeks 1 & 2, Term 2

Wednesday 7th May 2025

It's been a busy first few weeks of Term 2 in sport for our boys.

We've kicked off Term 2 with the STAC and Southland Boy's Interschools. Both schools travelled to us here in Dunedin for rugby, football, basketball, hockey, debating, chess and clay target shooting.

STAC Interschool

This interschool was played out over 2 days, on both Sunday and Monday with only our Senior teams participating from JMC, Columba and St Andrews College.

In hockey, the 1st XI drew 2-2 in a thrilling game, twice coming back from a goal down, showing great resilience. To settle the tie, a shootout followed, with keeper Archie McDiarmid guiding McGlashan to a 4-3 shootout victory.

Rugby fought hard and gave it their all but didn't secure the win on Sunday's game. The boys always rise to challenge and have some goals for the season moving forward.

Our senior basketball team played two games over two days against a very sharp, well rehearsed STAC team. While the results didn't go in JMC's favour, the boys always enjoy the challenge of playing strong competition.

The Football 1st XI team also played a tough game down at Logan Park and very narrowly missed out on the win going down 2-1.

The Trapshooting team were thrilled to take the win in this round- well done to these boys who are looking to attend national competition later in the year.

Southland Boys' Interschool

In the Southland Boys' interschool, we had a beautiful sunny day with 142 JMC students taking part in both Senior and Junior teams across many codes. In tight competition, JMC narrowly lost the exchange 6-5 to SBHS with one draw as well.

Both of our hockey teams, the U15s and 1st XI hockey teams played extremely well, dominating the scoreboard with both teams picking up wins, well done boys!

In rugby the boys had some tough games against strong SBHS sides. While the U15s and the 1st XVs results were not in their favour, the boys got stuck in and got some good game time before the Timaru interschool next week. Thank you to all the supporters that came along to support our boys in both games!

Our basketball teams both enjoyed their games despite not getting the wins. It was great to see both of our Senior and Junior teams out there giving it their best!

Once again, both our Senior and Junior football teams played some awesome football in the sunshine down at the Logan Park turfs. The Senior team were pleased to come away with a draw after some tight competition.

The trap shooting team gave it their all but didn't quite get the win. It has been great seeing these boys get some competition over the last 2 exchanges.

Good luck to our boys travelling up to the Timaru Boys' Interschool next week!
