It was a musical day at the annual John McGlashan Fête, with groups from The McGlashan Brotherhood Choir to the JMC Pipe Band (and everything in between!) taking to the airwaves.
The Fête is a big day for all of the college's musical groups, who come together to entertain patrons at various stages across campus. We were proud to have such a range of music on display on the day - and the students didn't let the weather stop them from performing with smiles on their faces!
The day started with a rousing performance from the JMC Pipe Band, thanks to a lot of work teaching (and tuning!) by our lead piper Caleb and drum tutor Dom throughout Terms 2 & 3 this year.
We're looking forward to sharing more piping with you as the band is steadily growing and planning to organise more public performances in the near future.
Shortly afterwards on the main stage, we were treated to some original tunes from Toby & Jonah, as well as Reuben's new electronic solo project 'A Blue Goldfish' - it's always a daunting experience playing original music to a new crowd, but the students handled it with style and to a great reception from the community.
Over in the Chapel entrance, we had young buskers Charlie, Artie and Ruan putting on a great show for a large amount of patrons coming and going from the various stalls on offer.
Back on the main stage, the JMC Big Band and Small Combo brought jazz to the party, managing to fight through the wind and rain to keep the show going.
A special shout out to the students from the small combo for their rendition of Southern Samba, which saw them all soloing at blinding pace thanks to some incredible groove work by their drummer Mitchell, who you may have seen popping up in the Pipe Band earlier!
Year 9 Band 'Cold Beanz' were also in fine form with Max's original tune 'The Ones that Get Around' and a couple of well-known covers in tow.
The afternoon saw some choral flare with the newly formed McGlashan Brotherhood Choir performing back at the Chapel under direction from Teddy Finney-Waters to an avid crowd of supporters:
And to round out the day, we heard some brilliant classical guitar from Liam - another multi-talented player who you may have noticed in the choir and jazz band earlier on!
Thanks very much to the students for their capable offerings, and of course to everyone who came to support the Fête and listen to the wide variety of music on offer throughout the day. It's been a great year for McGlashan Music all around!
