Student Ruan Hamman plays for ANZAC after a successful run at the Otago/Southland Provincial Brass Band Champs
April is always a busy time of year for brass musicians, who spring into action to practice hymns, marches and of course the last post for community ANZAC remembrance services across Ōtepoti.
We were thrilled to have our own resident Cornet player Ruan Hamman carrying these important honours at our formal ANZAC service on Wednesday. It was a pleasure to hear the last post ringing out strong and true in the chapel as we remembered our ANZACs.
A member of the Mosgiel Brass Band, Ruan has been making strides on Cornet, now in his 4th year of playing the instrument and fresh from competing at the Otago/Southland Provincial Brass Band Championships over the weekend.
Ruan competed in 3 categories at the competition: Under 16 Slow Melody, Under 16 Aire Vaire and Junior Duet. He won them all! He was also awarded a new trophy for best Under 19 solo performer.
Here's wishing Ruan congratulations on a successful weekend, and a big thank you for his contribution to our service for ANZAC. We look forward to seeing more brass out and about in the community over the holidays!
