Drama teacher responds to ex-pupil’s leaked audition tape
John McGlashan old-boy James Mustapic is ostensibly a success - he’s won Celebrity Treasure Island, had his own reality shows on TVNZ (memorably James Mustapic his Mum a Man) and is a regular at Fringe events in the city.
But when Mustapic’s recently leaked Hollywood audition tape found its way into the public domain, Film Dunedin was quick to capitalise, launching a public campaign to promote the iconic locations Mustapic visits in his tape - despite the fact the would-be actor is outright rejected for every role he attempts.
Kimberley Fridd, HOD of Drama at John McGlashan College and James’ former teacher denies any wrongdoing on her part. According to Fridd, “James received the ultimate education here at John McGlashan College. If he fails, he can only blame himself."
James Mustapic was unavailable for further comment, but his agent referred us to his (appropriately titled) upcoming Fringe show James Mustapic Yourself Up and Get Back On That Saddle Girlfriend. The show is to be performed with his mum Janet, who can hopefully help her son redeem his tarnished reputation.
In the meantime, Fridd is looking forward to another McGlashan old-boy’s show set to take place at the College as part of the upcoming Dunedin Fringe. “Tama Alexander’s Christmas-themed Hogwarts show promises a fun-filled evening of laughs.”
As for James Mustapic, his former teacher advises him to “stick to what he’s good at - comedy."
