Open Night, new science laboratories and Rock of Ages feature this term.

Every year, our boys do a tremendous job acting as guides and hosts for Open Night and this year has been no exception. Looking sharp and showing enthusiasm and pride, they are our best advocates when it comes to promoting their school. Well done boys.

New Laboratories

The science laboratories have been fully refurbished and are now open for use. Contractors Stewart Construction and architects McCoy and Wixon have done a brilliant job in bringing these facilities up to date and thanks to the efforts of Science Department staff, disruption has been kept to a minimum. The modernization gives us huge potential for enhancing the delivery of the curriculum and the boys and staff are revelling in their new surroundings. We intend to celebrate with an official opening in the near future.

Staff changes

A number of staff changes have resulted from the recent resignation of Mr Timothy Marshall. Tim resigned in the final week of Term 2 and we wish him well for the future.

Ms Emily Hall and Mr Chris Knopp are teaching the Year 11 and 12 physics respectively. Reverend Barry Kelk and Ms Natalie Chalmers continue on with Christian Studies and Junior Science.

Mrs Anita Veitch has replaced Mrs Melanie Ruru as Year 8 homeroom teacher. Ms Sandra Renner has taken over Melanie’s German classes.

These are fixed term positions until the end of the year.

Trouble with boys’ and IT

I want to urge parents to continue to advise and counsel the boys to think carefully when communicating on social media. The boys may seem sophisticated in their use of IT but I think they are quite naïve regarding the consequences of posting inappropriate material. As a school, we are doing our best to educate the boys in cyber safety but the subject requires ongoing awareness and guidance from home as well.

Rehearsals for the production Rock of Ages: High School Edition are in full swing so make sure you get your tickets to this spectacular event. Co-Producer, Kimberley Fridd, tells me the cast and crew are working very hard and are hoping for sellout shows so make sure you come and support them.

All the best for the term.
