What is your story?

Fireside stories

This week in Chapel we looked at the story of King Josiah (found in 2 Kings 22-23). Crowned at the age of eight, Josiah clearly had wise advisers around him, as we are told he led Judah well. After ruling for eighteen years Josiah set about ordering the restoration of God's temple. During this process Hilkiah the High Priest is digging through stores and makes a discovery. He unearths the "Book of the Law". Josiah requests that this be read to him.

On hearing his nations lost rules and stories Josiah is aghast. He tears his clothes and sets reintroducing God's rules and routines for his people. This appeases God's anger at their rejection of him and saves Judah for a number of years. The loss of their nations rules and stories brought near disaster upon his rule - averted through the recovery of these precious documents.

As part of Matariki I encouraged our students to spend time with whānau and ask about their stories. In Chapel we continue to explore the stories which are part of our John McGlashan communities special character and history. Can I encourage you this Matariki weekend to spend time together sharing stories with your young people. These stories are an integral part of who we are. I challenged students for "homework" to ask whānau about some of their stories, and share stories with family of things they were thankful for from this past year.

I pray that you enjoy the long weekend, for safety, relaxation and an enjoyable time sharing stories together.

Mike

Also, in amongst those serving our community I know there are many who pray regularly for our school and students. I would love to invite those who would be keen to gather and pray again together for their boys and the wider school to join me on Sunday 21st July. We will meet 7pm in the Parents & Friends Room (upstairs in the Edgar Learning Centre). We are doing this this Sunday after Border Chapel to allow any Border Parents who would like to join us to do so more readily if you would like. If you have any questions I would love to hear from you: mike.brown@mcglashan.school.nz.
