Living Our Values: Principal’s Recognitions

Wednesday 4th February 2026

At this week's assembly a number of boys were recognised on stage for living our new values.

The students need to see our values in action to understand how to live them.

An important tool we can use to embed the values is to recognise students when they positively reflect them. Staff have been asked to nominate students each week who they see living one of the values. These students will be recognised in assembly and celebrated by the school. The citation for the recognition is read, so the students are clear on the actions that are being recognised and align with the selected value. Students receive a values postcard with a written note from Dr Columbus. Today in assembly, we recognised four students.

Hugh W (Year 9) for Manaakitanga. Hugh has gone above and beyond to welcome new Year 9 students to the college. His actions exhibit his sense of belonging and keenness to ensure students feel the same way.

Cooper D (Year 10) for Respect. Cooper has been driving the positive and supportive classroom culture in his Mathematics class. This has uplifted other students and encouraged them to contribute and lean into challenges.

Ollie O’C (Year 11) for Excellence. Ollie is thriving in the rowing space and was successful at the recent South Island champs in Twizel. He is working hard to develop his discipline and pursue his potential in a challenging sport.

Matt S (Year 12) for Excellence. Matt’s first two weeks on the IB programme have been defined by energy, enthusiasm, and a drive to establish a foundation for success this year. He read extensively during the summer so that he was ready to hit the ground running.
