We recently hosted Southland Boys’ High School and St Andrew’s College (STAC), both events were memorable, competitive and well supported.

Against Southland Boys’ in the Junior Grades, we lost Debating, lost Basketball 63 – 69, Lost Rugby 12 – 29, and we won the Hockey game 8 – 0.

We faired better in the Senior games winning the Debating, Chess 7 -1, Golf 4 – 0, Hockey 7 – 0, Football 7 – 0, and in a closely fought match which was televised live on Sky TV the 1st XV withheld a late surge from our visitors to win 25 – 21. Our Trap Shooters lost their contest 333 – 363.

STAC arrived late from Christchurch on Sunday afternoon and the Basketballers soon hit the court with the visitors mounting a late comeback to win 90-84. The following morning in front of a large crowd we once again started well and only in the last minutes STAC got in front and won 79 -73.

Our debating boys had a climate change topic and went down to the visitors

Down at the turf STAC led early in the Football, and we came back to win 4 -1 with the highlight a superb individual goal from Isaac McConachie.

The Hockey was all tied up 1 all at the end of regulation time, and our boys delivered in the Penalty shoot out to win this 4 -1.

At Balmacewen Golf Course we won the handicap match play 2.5 – 1.5.

Our Rugby boys had a tough and even contest with the visitors with many lead changes throughout the second half. McGlashan thought they had won it with a late try to be up by 7, with STAC scoring a late to level the scores. With time up Max Hore kicked a last-second penalty to take out the win 35 – 32.

Another successful sports interschool.

A huge thank you to all those who billeted our visitors from STAC.
