Introducing JMC’s new Arts Coordinator

Pennie Hunt joined the College at the beginning of Term 1 as the new Arts Coordinator.

Pennie brings a broad ranging hands-on creative background to the role of Arts Coordinator, having previously taught at The University of Passau in Germany, worked as an art curator, a freelance writer and most recently as a filmmaker.


Pennie has written and directed four short films to date, her most recent is a New Zealand Film Commission-funded premiere short shot in Milford Sound, with an attached feature film screenplay currently in development. Pennie has been the Writer in Residence at the Robert Lord Cottage and was the Winston Churchill McNeish Writers Fellow in 2025.


Drawing on her experience across education, visual arts, creative writing, and screen production, Pennie is passionate about nurturing student creativity and helping young people see the various pathways the arts can offer. She looks forward to contributing to the rich arts curriculum on offer at the College and sharing students’ creative achievements with the wider community.
