CONSCRIPTED

By Htin Bhone

As the sun stole the spotlight from the moon,

A strange-looking man was at our door.

“We’re here to take him off to war.” His brisk tone said, harsh and icy.

I was only a young child,

not knowing where my father would go,

My mother begged on and on,

pleading with tears rolling down her face

like stone-cold pebbles,

It didn’t work, however,

As my father slowly came out to leave us alone,

A solemn face was the last I saw.

It was the last memory of him I had left

after the brutal war

that ignited the night

with a flare so bright.

Going to War

By Liam M

Going to war, in nineteen-fifteen

Our captain shouted “WE HAVE BEEN SEEN’’

We landed in battle, in the middle of war,

My heart was beating, and my legs were sore,

The trenches stunk like smoke and bitter rain,

While young men trotted with fear and pain

The sky was flooded with flashes fierce and bright,

And cries of soldiers echoed through the night.

Although letters came from our homes far away,

Bringing hope to broken souls each day.

Flooding

By Quinn P

Wet, cold

Trying, surviving, crying

The flood seems endless

Devastating.

The Soldier’s Drift

By Andrew S

I’m hit by a bullet, I thought to die.

In unconsciousness, I soar so blindly high.

I drift back home, and see a feast.

What is coming is a beast.

I feel no weight no stinging pain,

Washed away like falling rain.
