Otago Hosts Regional Tennis Competition

Sunday 2nd March 2025

John McGlashan had a number of boys competing in a tennis tournament in Dunedin

Over the weekend, Otago was delighted to host junior teams from South Canterbury, Southern Lakes, North Otago, and Southland in a highly anticipated regional tournament. Four of our school’s talented players had the honour of representing Otago in the event, showcasing their skills across singles, doubles, and mixed doubles matches.

In the Under-12 category, Max Robb and Finn Jaffray demonstrated impressive form, achieving solid results in both singles and doubles. Their teamwork was evident on court, and they thoroughly enjoyed the competitive yet supportive atmosphere. Meanwhile, in the Under-14 division, Max Smith and Oscar De Pelsemaeker put in strong performances, displaying resilience and determination in all their matches. Despite facing stiff competition from other regions, both boys earned some fantastic wins and valuable match experience.

Throughout the tournament, our players exemplified true sportsmanship—cheering on their teammates, supporting opponents with a respectful attitude, and taking every match as an opportunity to learn. All four boys returned home with a sense of accomplishment, having tested themselves against some of the strongest junior talent in the South Island.

A huge thank you goes out to the coaches, parents, and volunteers who helped make the event run smoothly. Congratulations to Max, Finn, Max, and Oscar for their commitment and achievements. We look forward to seeing them build on this success as the season continues
