Tuesday 4th February 2025

We hope you enjoy looking through this first edition of the Pilkington Press. You will receive an edition every Friday during term time and will be the one place to find all information that you need. Links will also be on the College's Facebook page and on our website.

Tēnā koutou,

All staff would agree that we have had a very positive start to the 2025 school year and spirits are high.

There have been clear expectations of high standards explained to our boys at our first full school assembly. The focus for the boys for the first term is ‘Respect'. This includes respect for self, other boys, people in the community, all staff and facilities.

As always, each week is a busy week at John McGlashan College. This week our Year 13 boys left for their Leadership Camp at our second campus at Te Anau Downs. Once again, the weather was amazing for this camp and we hope it holds out for the two Year 9 camps over the next two weeks. Our official opening for our second campus, which includes a new name for the site, will be Saturday 1 March. There will be information on this in the coming weeks.

On Wednesday we celebrated the Year 12 boys who qualified to receive the John McGlashan Scholars tie and joined the prodigious ‘Scholars Club.’ The Year 13 boys will receive their academic awards next week, when the final list of Prefects will also be named. A reminder that boys will be required to be in Formal Uniform every Wednesday as we have a number of formal assemblies at the beginning of this term.

As you are most likely aware, we have some changes in leadership at the College. Listed below is the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) of the College for Term 1:

John Veitch - Acting Principal

Ainslie Anderson – Acting Deputy Principal (NZQA, Principal’s Nominee)

Tom Casey – Assistant Principal (Pastoral Care, Year 12 & 13 Dean)

Brendan Porter – Assistant Principal (IB Diploma Coordinator, Curriculum, Reporting, PFA)

Please note that Nigel Hunter is on Sabbatical for Term 1.

I hope to see many of you during the first term,

John Veitch
