JMC lead piper and cultural blue award recipient Caleb Ung competes at national level!
A big congratulations to Caleb, who performed last weekend at the NZ Piping National Championships as part of the ILT City of Invercargill Pipe Band.
The performance is available to watch on Youtube.
Check out the post-match interview with Caleb below:
What got you into piping?
I got into piping because I love the sound of the bagpipes and because my mum really encouraged me to get into it!
How long have you been piping and how much do you practice at this level?
I have been piping for several years and it takes hours of individual practice each week as well as full band practices in order to play on the national stage at a high level.
What do you enjoy about competing at national level?
I enjoy competing at a national level because it is satisfying when the pipers and drummers all come together as one and play some solid music. I also enjoy seeing friends at nationals - and even making some new ones.
