JMC Shines at Dunedin Athletics Nationals

Thursday 13th March 2025

John McGlashan College athletes achieved outstanding success at the recent Athletics Nationals in Dunedin.

The competition required each competitor to meet tough performance standards, and Ed, Alex, Angus, Eddie, and Mayson all rose to the challenge, representing Otago with distinction.

• Eddie Weir: Struck gold in the U16 Steeplechase—an incredible achievement that had him proudly “ringing the bell” to celebrate his victory.

• Angus Hollows: Secured a silver medal in the U16 Javelin, recording a huge personal best that highlights his rapid improvement.

• Relay Success: Eddie, Angus, and Mayson joined forces in the U16 4x100m relay to win silver, and added a bronze in the 4x400m relay. Eddie’s efforts across these events resulted in a full medal set—gold, silver, and bronze!

The school is also proud of our Old Boys, Mr. Veitch and Mr. Ferro, who clinched gold in the Senior Men’s 4x100m relay, exemplifying the enduring strength of JMC athletics beyond school competitions.

These outstanding achievements reflect countless hours of training, discipline, and a deep passion for the sport. Congratulations to all involved for representing JMC and Otago so successfully—you’ve made the entire school community proud!

We look forward to seeing their future accomplishments on the track and field.
