The weather couldn’t have been better as the Logan Park road relays rolled around for another year.

As the eager young harriers jumped off the bus the atmosphere was ecstatic from start to finish. The junior boys lined up on the start line and as the siren went Josh Stoddard and Ben Mitchell blasted off taking a strong leading position in the pack. Josh and Ben continued to run a strong race, with Josh Stoddard taking a solid second place (narrowly missed out on 1st place by a few seconds) with Ben Mitchell only 2 seconds behind to take 3rd place.

As the girls race took off the senior boys strode out for a final time and stretched out their niggles. The call came to line up on the start line as emotions ran high. All the big names of road running lined up. With Oli Chignell the race favourite to defend his title. The siren saw Oli speed off across the autumnal field with two chasers in hot pursuit. The rest of the pack settled into a high tempo pace. The first lap of the 5km race was a heated one with each runner being in close proximity of each other. The second lap saw each runner dig deep and show some grit as the legs began to turn to lead and lungs burnt. The final 400m was a violent jostle for position as bark chips flew everywhere.

Despite the high tempo race, Oli Chignell bounded in for an easy finish winning by 40 seconds. Lochie Chittock claimed a well-deserved 4th and Ronald Poon solidified a strong John McGlashan performance.

Every runner ran to their full potential and 110% was given in each stride. A big thank you to the organisers of a great race and to Mr Carruthers and Mrs Button for their efforts.
