We look forward to reconnecting in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and London in 2026.
Kia ora e te whānau,
Owen Eastwood talks about whakapapa as the idea that we are all part of an unbroken chain going backwards and forwards in time. At the heart of which is a sacred and shared identity. For us, that is John McGlashan College. We want our students to feel that McGlashan is their turangawaewae (their place to stand) during their time here, and also when they finish their journey at the college and go out into the world. That connection transcends time. We apply this to all Collegians, those in the past, the students now, and the Collegians to come. For you all, this too is your turangawaewae.
To that end, we’ve been busy planning a series of alumni engagement events for this year. We were humbled by the turnout in Auckland in March and look forward to the event in Melbourne this weekend.
A London event has been confirmed for July, and we’re planning events in Sydney and Brisbane in August (confirmed dates and venues to follow soon).
Please spread the word amongst your Old Collegian friends and networks. These events are about reconnection. When we talk about turangawawae, we mean it.
We look forward to meeting and reconnecting with Old Collegians at The Emerald Peacock in Melbourne on Sunday evening, and at The Coach Marker’s Arms in Marylebone, London, on Saturday 4 July.
Dr Aaron Columbus (Principal), Drew Campbell (Director of Boarding), Kirstyn Sandall (General Manager), and Nigel Hunter (Deputy Principal) will all be in attendance at The Emerald Peacock this weekend.
Kā mihi nui.
Dr Aaron Columbus
Principal, John McGlashan College
