Empowering Our Young Men: Health Education in 2026

To help navigate the journey of growing great young men, we share with you the comprehensive Health Education roadmap designed for our students. Our goal is to equip your sons with the knowledge, resilience, and ethical grounding they need to navigate the complexities of modern life.

Junior School: Foundations of Growth (Years 7–8)

In the junior years, Health is integrated into Social English modules, focusing on the rapid changes students experience at this age.

  • Year 7: We are re-engaging with the Life Education Trust to focus on healthy decision-making and an introduction to pubertal changes. Attitude NZ will also present Tackling Technology, helping boys make smart choices online.

  • Year 8: Students explore their identity through the Te Whare Tapa Whā model, alongside practical lessons on puberty and hygiene.

This is a great time to start open conversations at home about physical changes and digital boundaries.

Middle School: Navigating Influence (Years 9–10)

As students gain more independence, our Year 9 and 10 health modules become full-year programs focused on critical thinking and safety.

  • Year 9: Topics include Bullying, Cybersafety (with insights from John Parsons), Sexuality, and Nutrition. Attitude NZ delivers a specialised session on Hauora (Well-being).

  • Year 10: This is a pivotal year covering Alcohol and Other Drugs (Hardwired presentation), Explicit Visual Imagery, and Community Health.

    • Focus on Leadership: Year 10 lessons place a heavy emphasis on Consent, Healthy Relationships, and preventing sexual violence, encouraging our boys to be leaders in their social circles.

Senior School: Ethics, Safety, and Responsibility (Years 11–13)

The senior curriculum shifts toward real-world application, legal responsibility, and ethical dilemmas.

  • Year 11: Focuses on Sex with Attitude, navigating mature relationships with integrity.

  • Year 12: A major focus on safety and respect. Students participate in the RYDA Driver Safety day and the Loves Me Not program (with NZ Police) looking at preventing abusive behavior in relationships.

  • Year 13 Bioethics: Students tackle heavy-hitting topics including Drug Use in NZ, Assisted Dying, and International Health. In 2026, we have Kete Rongo (Otepoti Communities Against Sexual Abuse) presenting to deepen the understanding of consent and sexual harm.
