Welcome to the Library for 2026

Wednesday 28th January 2026

With school in full swing this week, the Library is humming with activity and ready for the year ahead.

Library staff are busily returning books that were borrowed over the holidays and getting these back on the shelves for others to read and enjoy. Thank you to everyone who has returned their Summer Book Bag promptly. Students who still have a Book Bag at home should return it to the Library now.

We are off to a great start signing up student librarians for 2026. We are always looking for boys to help with issuing, returning, and shelving books, and to join in some fun activities throughout the year too. Experience is not necessary, as full training is provided. Students who have been librarians in previous years should also sign up in the Library if they would like to help again this year. There will be an introductory student librarian meeting in the Library on Wednesday 4th February at interval.

Mrs Gardiner and Mrs Watts are currently surrounded by piles of new books which will be out in the Library and ready for borrowing very soon, but we are always keen to hear about more! Students can add recommendations to our Suggestion Book if there are books they would like to see added to the Library. They can also 'Request' ebooks and audiobooks in our ePlatform digital library if there is something specific they would like to read.

The start of the year is a good time for a quick reminder that the Library is open each week day from 8am until 4pm, and is device-free at intervals and lunchtimes to give the boys a break from their screens.

You can view the library information in the Student and Parent Handbook, visit our library web app at library.mcglashan.school.nz, and students can access our ePlatform library of ebooks and audiobooks at mcglashan.eplatform.co.

Feel free to contact us at library@mcglashan.school.nz if there is anything we can help with.
