Congratulations to all the students who were awarded prizes last night.
The Senior School Prizegiving was a wonderful celebration of achievement and community spirit. It was a great night that recognised our students’ outstanding success across academic, sporting, and cultural pursuits. The evening highlighted the depth of talent within the College, with high achievers acknowledged for their dedication and excellence. The atmosphere was further enriched by engaging musical performances from the Small Combo and a powerful presentation from the Kapa Haka group, adding warmth and pride to an inspiring occasion.
The main award of the night is the announcement of the Dux - the highest achieving student in the college! This year it was very hard to separate two students studying different pathways – one IB and the other NCEA. They are both very talented academics and were a step above others in their respective cohort.
The duces for 2025 are: Aram Talahma and Jerry Yang
Aram is an exceptionally disciplined and motivated student whose quiet determination has seen him at the top of every one of his subjects. A top scholar with genuine curiosity, he pursues learning beyond the classroom and supports others as a dedicated peer tutor. He represents the College in badminton, participates in tramping rogaines, and expresses creativity through piano and guitar. His community service includes conservation work in the Dunedin Town Belt and leadership in the Kiwi Christmas Books campaign. Aram’s humility, drive, and all-around excellence make him a most deserving recipient of this year’s Dux Award.
In his three years at the College, Jerry has exemplified diligence, determination, and humility. He approaches every challenge with focus and perseverance, excelling academically while mastering the English language. A quiet contributor who arrives early and stays late, Jerry embodies commitment and integrity. His passion for aviation and aeronautical engineering has already seen him working towards his private pilot’s licence. With four subjects at a perfect GPA and near-full marks in Calculus, Jerry is a truly deserving Dux Award recipient.
