Tēnā koutou,

A warm welcome back to all parents for Term 3!  It is a ‘cooler’ welcome from me as I am writing this Pilkington Press forward from Wānaka, as I am helping out on the Year 12 Ski Camp.

It was very exciting to hear that our boys in Deaf Raccoon (Leo Hill, Chris Body, Jamie Bradfield) were awarded 1st place at the Rockquest regional finals during the holidays.  This is an awesome achievement considering the standard of the 14 bands that performed. The next stage involves the top 35 national bands submitting a video before the top 10 bands are selected to perform at the finals in Auckland.

These past few weeks have been filled with a number exceptional sports achievements. We congratulate all the boys for their hard work and dedication during the break, representing the school in cycling, rugby league, ice hockey, Taekwondo, football, rugby and hockey, to name a few. Be sure to read the full review in the sports article.

We are delighted to welcome four new International students this term to the school: Kei, Max, Sishu and Ethan. They have all settled in nicely already, and they are enjoying their first week of school.

We have our Open Night next Tuesday, 22 July at 6:00pm and our Open Afternoon the following day at 1:30pm. We hope to meet many new prospective John McGlashan families at these two important events. Years 12 & 13 students are expected to help as guides on Open Night. Selected boys from Years 7 to 11 will be helping with the various displays.

The following week, we look forward to seeing as many parents as possible at the Junior and Senior Interviews. You will all be receiving information about this soon, so please book in your times so that you can receive some quality feedback about your son’s progress so far this year.

Finally, Board nominations are now open. We warmly invite all members of our school community to consider joining our School Board. You can nominate yourself or others. Read more about the nomination process here.

Kā mihi,

John Veitch
Acting Principal
