Our expectations of players and spectators are guided by the refreshed values.

We are excited for the upcoming winter sports season. John McGlashan's vision was for boys to have a rounded education and take up the opportunities on offer to them, which our young people do, whether in sports, the arts, or cultural spheres. Our sports participation rates are incredibly high, which supports notions of belonging and wellbeing. We see our boys striving for excellence on the fields, turfs, and courts during the winter months.

We’re guided by our values in all that we do. I talked about how this applies to our young people as players, competitors, and supporters in the assembly this week, with a particular focus on Respect.

A strength of our kura is the support of parents and whānau, whether it be as coaches and managers, or passionate sideline supporters. We appreciate this involvement and support, without which we would struggle to deliver such a rich programme of offerings.

Our values apply to everyone in our community, and we have articulated our expectations of players and supporters by framing this in the context of our values. Parents and whānau, as coaches, managers, and spectators, please keep the following in mind, as we have asked our young people to.

As players and spectators, our values are the non-negotiables by which we hold ourselves and each other to account.

We live Excellence by giving our best effort in how we play and how we support; showing self-control, and representing our team with positivity.

We live Respect by treating teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators with dignity; supporting without criticism or abuse, and accepting all outcomes with grace.

We live Manaakitanga by creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, celebrating effort, and ensuring everyone feels valued, safe, and encouraged.

This is who we are at our natural best, always.

It’s important to remember that our coaches and managers are mostly volunteers and work hard to ensure our boys grow and enjoy their sports experiences. We are incredibly grateful to them for this. Please keep our values in mind when communicating with coaches and managers, and default to the teachers in charge of the code or our sports department if there is an issue that needs to be raised.
