Launch Seminar: Monday 12 May between 6 - 7pm in Room 205, upstairs in the ELC.
We are in the midst of planning our next McGlashan History trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. We intend to travel during the April school holidays in 2026.
The trip is open to students taking history in 2026 in Years 11 and 12, and those Year 13s who studied history in Year 12.
The intention of the trip is to explore sites of historical significance in Vietnam and Cambodia, experience a vastly different culture, and we hope to further develop empathy and compassion in our students.
We will travel to Phnom Penh in Cambodia to explore locations relevant to the Khmer Rouge regime, to Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, in Vietnam, then to the stunning port town of Hoi An, to Sapa in the highlands, then to Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital city in the north, with a day trip to Ninh Binh to explore the stunning landscape and caves.
The Vietnam War, or the American War of Aggression, as it’s known in Vietnam remains very visible throughout the country and the Khmer Rouge regime had a momentous impact in Cambodia. We study both contexts in both NCEA and IB history, and we are so very lucky to have this opportunity.
Please join us for our launch seminar if you are interested, or contact Rachael Gardiner, HOD Social Sciences.
