The John McGlashan College community is proud to celebrate the efforts of our two Year 8 classes—8AHO and 8RMI—who recently raised an impressive $1,175 in support of mental health awareness. This initiative highlights the compassion and dedication of these young students as they come together to make a difference. Every dollar raised has been donated to Presbyterian Support, an organisation providing essential mental health services, resources, and wrap-around support for people in need.
A key goal of the fundraiser was to have students actively work for the cause, rather than simply donate, to foster a stronger connection and sense of purpose in supporting mental health. Each student committed to completing at least two hours of community service, dedicating time and energy to a cause that matters. Through their efforts, the students not only raised funds but also deepened their awareness of mental health issues and the impact of community involvement.
The initiative went beyond fundraising; it was a hands-on learning experience in empathy, responsibility, and active citizenship. The students embraced the project wholeheartedly, working together to raise awareness about mental health within their school and local community. Staff and parents are incredibly proud of the students’ achievements, which reflect the core values taught at John McGlashan College and demonstrate how young people can make a significant impact through teamwork and purpose.
Supported by a network of encouraging teachers, family members, and friends, the Year 8 students demonstrated a sincere commitment to this project. It’s a shining example of what can be accomplished when students unite to support a cause that resonates beyond the classroom. John McGlashan College looks forward to seeing these young leaders continue making a positive difference as they grow, hoping this experience has sparked a lifelong dedication to service.
With the help of their families, school staff, and the broader community, these Year 8 students have proven that even small acts of service can make a lasting impact. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this success—your support has helped the students create a difference that will be felt for years to come.
